da premier bet: A repeat of Sunday’s Premier League meeting, Hull visit White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur in this Round 4 Capital One Cup tie.
da apostebet: Andre Villas-Boas’ side have not particularly been at their best so far this season, but they are grinding out results nonetheless, including their victory against Hull at the weekend, despite Soldado’s winner coming from a contentious penalty decision.
Villas-Boas accused the Tottenham faithful of creating a tense and negative atmosphere at White Hart Lane on Sunday, so it will be interesting to see how the fans and the players react to each other’s approach.
Hull have been impressive so far this season and will feel they deserved to take something from Sunday’s meeting. Steve Bruce’s men will no doubt be out for revenge on Wednesday night and give their travelling fans something to cheer about.
With a top-four finish Andre Villas-Boas’ top priority this season, this will be the perfect chance for him to rest a number of his regular performers and give the squad’s fringe players the opportunity to stake their claim in the first team.
History and stats, as well as money spent by each side, point to a Spurs victory. Hull have only recorded one win at White Hart Lane in their history, which came in the Premier League in October 2008. This is also the furthest the Tigers have progressed in the Capital One Cup since the 1977/1978 season.
To add to that, Hull have lost six or their last seven Capital One Cup meetings with Premier League opposition and they have only won one away game against top-flight opposition in this competition in 20 games.
However, the visitors will take confidence in the fact that they have been hard for teams to break down this season, while Spurs have only managed to score nine goals in their last nine league games.
But one way in which Villas-Boas can bring an end to his side’s frustrating is by giving Jermain Defoe the starting berth he deserves following his goal scoring antics in the Europa League this season. The striker has hardly been given a chance other than in Europe this year and has had to sit on the bench and watch his fellow team mates struggle for goals instead.
Club-record signing Erik Lamela is also likely to start, which will give him a chance to really show the Spurs’ faithful why the club invested so much of the Gareth Bale fee on him.
Hull boss Steve Bruce has no fresh injury concerns since Sunday’s league meeting with Spurs and will again have to deal without Jake Livermore who is ineligible to face his parent club.
A top-four finish is priority for Spurs, but the chance to lift a fifth Capital One Cup trophy in their history is a realistic propsect given the money they spent in the summer and the strength in depth they have at their disposal.
