da gbg bet: Dundee United snatched a deserved point with the last kick of the ball at Celtic Park yesterday after the home team conceded their advantage tamely. David Goodwillie caused problems throughout the game and should have put United ahead early on when he beat the offside trap to run clean through on Fraser Forster but his shot went wide.
da dobrowin: During my time blogging for FootballFanCast I have well documented Celtic’s defensive frailties and after Saturdays performance, there are no signs of any marked improvements in that department. “We only had to defend a set piece with seconds to go and we were incapable of doing that,” The Celtic boss lamented, with Neil Lennon half way to admitting that his team have problems at the back, is the Celtic job becoming too big for Lennon?
This was the first time Celts boss Lennon admitted frankly, that his team have a lot of work to do if they are to be crowned champions come the end of the season. “I can’t keep saying it’s a learning experience because I haven’t got time to keep saying that. Its two points dropped, it’s disappointing, we’ll come again. The gap’s only three points, it’s not insurmountable and our goal difference is pretty healthy.” There is an obvious air of reservation and concern from Lennon’s remarks, thus alluding to the fact that the “Rookie boss realises time for his players to learn is at a premium.” Is he feeling the pressure?
I do not believe for one moment that Lennon would not have set up his stall in a manner he saw fit to dispose of an average Dundee United. Surely much responsibility lies with the players? Celtic showed little discipline in the dying moments of the game as they gave away a silly free kick, which proved the team’s downfall. “At that stage of the game you should be throwing yourselves at things. What galls me is that it is a free header in the six yard box in the middle of the goal. From our point of view that is unacceptable.”
With Lennon admitting there is work to be done, and with little improvement from his defence in recent weeks, is Lennon finding himself slightly out of his depth. Furthermore, Celtic are yet to record a notable result against a team of substantial quality. If results against the so called lesser teams follow in this manner then pressure will soon mount and Lennon will surely feel the stress and strain of managing a club with such high expectations.
