da pinnacle: What on earth is going to happen to football this season?
da bwin: That’s the question on everybody’s mind at the moment, and if you could come up with an answer to that which suits everyone you’d make a lot of money.
Plenty of suggestions have reportedly floated around the numerous meetings on the matter including a 22-team Premier League while two clubs have reportedly asked to completely nullify the season.
That does seem like quite a drastic measure with just nine games to go, but it’s a suggestion that is gaining a bit of traction in some circles with West Ham chief Karren Brady suggesting that the season should be called off entirely.

As you’d imagine that wouldn’t go down well with some sides, Liverpool would be denied their first league title in 30 years and Sheffield United would be denied the chance to battle for a European spot, but for Leeds United, such a drastic measure would potentially change the trajectory of the club for years to come.
For the first time in years things are looking up at Elland Road, they’re top of the Championship and promotion is in their sights, but that could all change so quickly. You only have to look at Phil Hay’s November comments to show how catastrophic the season being written off would be.
The journalist made two extremely frightening predictions throughout the month.
Firstly he stated in one of his Q&A sessions that Marcelo Bielsa would leave the club if Leeds aren’t promoted when answering a question about Jay-Roy Grot’s future:
“I very much doubt it. Bielsa will go if Leeds don’t go up. If Leeds do go up, Grot isn’t going to be the answer in the Premier League. He’s not exactly tearing up the Dutch league,” The Athletic’s Leeds correspondent said.
He would then go onto echo that sentiment in a podcast a few weeks later, saying:
“Nowadays it’s down to team news and not a huge amount else and he knows if it doesn’t happen this season he’ll be gone, and if it doesn’t happen this season there’ll be players at the club who will be gone, very good players.” (The Phil Hay Show 28/11/19 15:50).
The stakes are laid bare right there. If Leeds are condemned to another season in the Championship they’re likely to not only lose a manager who has once been touted as the best coach in the world, but a number of very talented players.
United will have to cross their fingers and hope that this suggestion isn’t considered.
In other news, Leeds don’t deserve to be promoted by default.
