da realsbet: Newcastle United are thought to be readying an £8m bid for Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer this summer.
da luck: That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that the Magpies have been long-term admirers of the Hoops’ towering Norwegian, who is keen on a move to the Premier League.
Celtic’s huge Ajer valuation
The report also adds that Newcastle expect to face competition for the 22-year-old, who Celtic feel is worth close to a whopping £35m.
Ajer has been a regular for the Hoops this season, making 40 appearances in total. His contract expires next summer, with the player’s current Transfermarkt valuation standing at £3.6m.
Transfer Tavern take
It seems as if Newcastle will make an £8m bid this summer with or without Steve Bruce in charge.
That figure is over double his current market value but nowhere near close to Celtic’s reported £35m price tag.
We feel that the Hoops will need multiple sides to show a serious interest in the towering defender this summer to have any chance of receiving a figure close to their asking price.
If they don’t, the club may have to bite the bullet and sell, otherwise, they could be in line to lose Ajer for nothing in January 2022, where he could then agree pre-contract terms with clubs outside of Scotland.
