Neil Lennon is no stranger to managerial success in Scottish football and his experience will have taught him plenty about the habitual nature of winning.
What’s the word?
The interim Celtic boss could be set to lead the club to their fourth SPFL triumph under his leadership with a healthy advantage over 2nd place Rangers already in place, and the presence of experienced figureheads could be key to success.
That’s a viewpoint which Lennon has explicitly stated this week anyway, with Mikael Lustig, Scott Brown and James Forrest all cited as players with the mentality to ensure the Bhoys see the job through.
Indeed, Lennon moved to respond to speculation surrounding Lustig’s future in Glasglow earlier this week and also spoke of his delight at Brown’s form since he signed a new contract at Paradise, per Evening Times.
“We are seeing the best of Scott Brown again, whereas before he was maybe a bit off the boil because there were other things swimming around his head. He is so important to me and John Kennedy.
“Like your Lustigs and your Jamesie Forrests, you need those sort of players who have been the course before. They are important to me personally at this stage and obviously the backroom stuff and Damien Duff are huge as well.”
Lennon places huge value on experience
For a manager who is all too familiar with the prerequisites for collecting silverware, it’s no surprise that he has labelled these three players as those who are personally important to him.
It only takes a quick look at the Premier League and how Liverpool are struggling under the pressure which a gruelling title race typically provides to appreciate the paramount importance of experience.
Those who have been there and done it all before are well prepared for the physical and mental demands of a title chase, and Lennon’s comments suggest that he will be expecting the experienced figureheads to help him keep the squad motivated in light of Brendan Rodgers’ sudden departure.
