Manchester City have been unfortunate to endure such torrid luck on the injury front these past few months. At the moment, City could head to Anfield on Sunday without Aymeric Laporte, David Silva, Leroy Sane, Rodri, Oleksandr Zinchenko and now Ederson.
During a bizarre game against Atalanta, the keeper was seen to come off injured at half-time, which brought on Claudio Bravo. However, the Chile international saw red later on and, with no recognised stopper available, Kyle Walker took his spot between the sticks.
It is a rarely seen phenomenon and Walker took full advantage of the comical situation, first gobbling up a free-kick at the second attempt and later following the job description to the finest detail by dropping to the floor after claiming a routine catch.
But, after the injury to Ederson, City fans are hoping that the Brazilian is not joining fellow big names on sidelines. One fan even said to play him “even if he only has one leg”, whilst another supporter said that “they can’t go to Anfield with Clownio Bravo”.
The shot-stopper will surely be a huge miss for the champions in such a crucial game. City’s defence has already looked shaky without Laporte, and in the absence of Ederson’s distribution, Pep Guardiola could be in trouble.
A win for Liverpool would put them nine clear at the top of the table, making it a must-win for the Spaniard.
With so many injuries to their star-studded squad, City fans would probably want this game to wait a few weeks. Now, with Ederson out, things are looking bleak.
Here’s what some of them have had to say about his latest knock…
