da lvbet: At one stage during the summer transfer window it appeared as though Celtic could be left with just three centre-back options this season with Dedryck Boyata heavily linked with a move away, but when the deadline passed they had five instead.
The big Belgium international ended up remaining at Celtic Park and has already reintegrated himself into Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI despite not being the most popular figure among his own supporters following the questionable conduct of him and his agent, while Filip Benkovic arrived on a season-long loan deal from Leicester City having only joined the Foxes from Dinamo Zagreb himself this summer.
The return of Boyata and addition of Benkovic appeared to be much needed given Jozo Simunovic, Jack Hendry and Kristoffer Ajer looked shaky in the early stages of the campaign – especially following their Champions League exit.
While Hendry – who has missed the last few matches through injury – may well find himself as a fifth-choice option and is likely to find first-team minutes hard to come by in the coming weeks and months, Rodgers has four players to fit into two positions in the four-man backline he has favoured recently.

The colossus Boyata may be a controversial figure right now but he has to start, and while he kept a clean sheet alongside Ajer in the Old Firm derby against Rangers last time out, the 27-year-old could bring out the best in Simunovic, who has been regularly criticised by his own supporters on Twitter, if the duo played together on a regular basis.
