da brdice: Celtic are interested in a deal to bring Lee Buchanan to Parkhead in the January transfer window.
What’s the talk?
da esport bet: That’s according to Alan Nixon’s report for The Scottish Sun, with the journalist claiming that Ange Postecoglou could turn to the Derby County left-back in order to solve Celtic’s issues on the left-hand-side of defence, with the 56-year-old having played five different players in the position so far this season.
Nixon continues to state that the Bhoys sent scout Mick Doherty to watch the 20-year-old in action last week, as well as suggesting that crisis-hit Derby could be tempted into selling the England U21 international in the winter window.
Forget Taylor
While 23-year-old Greg Taylor has impressed over his four Scottish Premiership appearances so far this season – with the left-back averaging a SofaScore match rating of 7.15 – as well as 19-year-old Adam Montgomery breaking through into Postecoglou’s first-team squad, it is undeniable that the signing of Buchanan would improve Celtic’s quality at left-back.
Despite the youngster suffering something of a dip in form in recent weeks – failing to achieve an average match rating higher than 6.8 – the £2.25m-rated man has nevertheless proven his quality for Derby this season.
He received a SofaScore match rating of 7.0 for his display in a 0-0 draw against promotion-hopefuls West Bromwich Albion, a 7.1 rating in the Rams’ 2-1 win against an impressive Stoke City side and a 7.7 rating in a 1-0 defeat to recently relegated Sheffield United.
Indeed, the Derby manager, Wayne Rooney, is certainly convinced of the potential the 20-year-old possesses, with the 36-year-old stating his belief that Buchanan is “one of the best young left-backs in the country.”
As such, should an opportunity to land the highly-rated defender in January present itself, it would appear an extremely wise move for Postecoglou to do all he can to secure Buchanan’s signing, as the left-back would undoubtedly be an upgrade on any of the 56-year-old’s current options in the position.
